Tencel™ Modal
Tencel™ Modal is a soft, breathable cellulose fiber made from responsibly sourced beechwood trees. Produced through a controlled, closed-loop process that recovers and reuses most solvents, it transforms wood pulp into smooth, lightweight filaments with an exceptionally gentle hand feel. The result is a fluid, durable fabric known for its natural softness, moisture management, and long-lasting comfort.
The beechwood trees used come from responsibly managed forests in Europe
The process begins by harvesting beechwood and converting it into wood pulp. The pulp is dissolved and transformed into a cellulose solution, which is then extruded through fine spinnerets to create continuous fibers.
TENCEL™ Modal is produced using a closed-loop system, where the majority of processing chemicals are recovered and reused, significantly reducing waste and emissions compared to conventional modal production. The fibers are then washed, dried, and spun into yarns for fabric development.
Made from renewable wood sources, Produced in a closed-loop system with high solvent recovery rates, Lower water consumption compared to cotton, Biodegradable and compostable under appropriate conditions, Strong fiber structure increases durability and garment longevity
FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC™ – certified sustainable forestry
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 – tested for harmful substances
EU Ecolabel – awarded to select Lenzing fibers for high environmental standards
Why we chose to use it
We chose Tencel™ Modal because it pairs natural origin with responsible innovation. Sourced from renewable beechwood and produced in a closed-loop system, it reflects our commitment to materials that are thoughtfully engineered from forest to fiber.
Beyond its environmental advantages, we love it for how it feels and performs. TENCEL™ Modal is exceptionally soft, breathable, and resilient — draping beautifully while holding its shape over time. It allows us to design garments that feel elevated and effortless, while staying rooted in lower-impact, traceable sourcing.
