Recycled Cigarette Buttons
Rezero Butt-on® buttons are sustainable fashion buttons made from recycled unused cigarette filters, where the cellulose acetate is isolated and repurposed into durable, stylish fasteners that tell a meaningful sustainability story.
Collected post-industrial, unused cigarette filters recovered from border confiscations.
Unused cigarette filters are collected and cleaned, then the cellulose acetate is separated and purified. The material is regenerated into a new acetate compound, which is molded and finished into durable, design-ready buttons.
Diverts waste: Repurposes unused cigarette filters that would otherwise contribute to plastic pollution or landfill waste.
Reduces virgin plastic use: Reclaims cellulose acetate instead of producing new petroleum-based or virgin acetate materials.
Lower carbon footprint: Recycling existing material typically requires less energy than manufacturing new synthetic components.
Circular design story: Transforms a problematic waste stream into a durable, long-lasting garment detail.
Reuses an acetate that was otherwise destined for landfill cutting down on energy and CO2 emissions to make new materials. Pellets are produced using a solar powered process.
Each button rescues 8 cigarette filters.

Why we chose to use it
We chose these buttons because they transform one of the world’s most persistent waste problems into a purposeful design detail. By regenerating cellulose acetate from unused cigarette filters, they divert plastic waste before it enters landfills or ecosystems — turning an environmental liability into a functional, long-lasting component.
For us, sustainability isn’t just about fabric — it’s about every element of a garment. These buttons allow us to extend our waste-to-resource philosophy down to the smallest details, proving that circular thinking can exist in every stitch, seam, and finish.
