Hemp

Hemp is a fast-growing, natural bast fiber derived from the stalk of the Cannabis sativa plant, cultivated specifically for industrial use. Known for its strength and durability, hemp requires significantly less water than conventional cotton and typically grows without synthetic pesticides due to its natural resistance to pests. The fiber is extracted from the plant’s stalk, retted, and processed into yarns that create breathable, long-lasting textiles — offering a low-impact, resilient material rooted in regenerative agriculture.

The hemp comes from Lithuania

Hemp fabric begins with harvesting the plant stalks, which are then retted (a process that uses moisture and microbes to break down natural binders) to separate the bast fibers from the woody core. The fibers are decorticated, cleaned, and combed before being spun into yarn and woven or knitted into fabric. Modern processing can range from traditional mechanical methods to softer, enzyme-based treatments that improve hand feel while maintaining durability.

Environmentally, hemp is considered one of the lower-impact natural fibers. It grows quickly, requires minimal irrigation, and typically thrives without synthetic pesticides or herbicides. Its deep root system helps prevent soil erosion and can improve soil structure over time. However, processing methods and chemical treatments used to soften hemp can influence its overall footprint, making responsible manufacturing practices essential.

Why we chose to use it

We chose hemp because it represents resilience at every level — in how it grows and in how it wears. It thrives with minimal water, typically without synthetic pesticides, and supports soil health through its deep root system. That agricultural strength translates into a fiber known for durability and longevity, helping garments last longer and reduce replacement cycles.

For us, hemp embodies regenerative thinking. It proves that performance doesn’t have to come at the planet’s expense — and that some of the most forward-looking materials are rooted in time-tested natural systems.
